TWRA Boat Safety Course

Any Tennessee resident born after January 1, 1989 must show the TWRA-issued wallet Boating Safety Education Certificate as proof of successful completion of the TWRA Boating Safety exam. No other certificate will be accepted as meeting the requirements of the law. For out-of-staters if you were born after January 1, 1989 TWRA will accept any NASBLA approved boating safety certificate. More details can be found on the TWRA website

The TWRA Boat Safety course, open to anyone age 12 or older, is given by our certified instructors John Haluska and John White of the America’s Boating Club – Memphis and John White the US Coast Guard AUxillary. The cost of the course is $10. Class size is limited so early registration is encouraged. For more information contact

Attendees will be need to bring a Type 600 Exam Permit (purchased from any place that sells hunting/fishing license i.s. Walmart or Bass Pro). The permit cost is $10.

America’s Boating Course

America’s Boating Course – is considered to be the basic boating course. It will be offered as four two-hour sessions. The course utilizes guided instruction and numerous video and audio clips to provide basic boating safety information. Completion of this National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) approved course is accepted in most states as a requirement to getting a safety certificate, required in most states for operation of a water craft.
