It has been an interesting year for many of us and I look forward to spending more time on the water this summer. I just completed my second and hopefully last surgery last week, this time to repair a bad disc in my neck and so far so good. The recovery time should not be too long and I am already getting Spring fever.
As many of you are aware, our next meeting will be the Change of Watch for the Squadron. I hope everyone can make it to the meeting and get familiar with the new bridge. I also want to ask everyone to find a bit of time to help out this year. Our numbers are declining, which makes it tougher to achieve higher participation levels, but we still have a wonderful group of people and a great squadron. I started the year as a new Commander with some pretty hefty goals and, sadly, was only able to accomplish a few of them. I am not disappointed with the outcome but regret we were unable to move further forward.
We have the potential, this year, to work more with the Coast Guard than in the past and I look forward to those opportunities. The new bridge should have an exciting and busy job and we all should be prepared to help them out. We still need to find a candidate for the Secretary’s position on the Bridge and highly encourage you to volunteer.
Additionally, Chuck Stone, our resident Vessel Safety Check Examiner Chairman, has finally decided he wants to hang out on the boat more than crawling all over some of the prettiest boats on the lake. I would personally like to thank Chuck for the outstanding job he has done in this position in the past. Chuck has agreed to stay on as a VSC Examiner and will be a valuable asset.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the meeting and on the lake.

USPS District 17 Spring Conference
Hold onto your hats folks! This is the beginning of the new and improved District 17. A Past District Commander commented that district meetings weren’t FUN. Another member commented, “We’re a boating club; Why aren’t we boating?” We heard the message, so plan to attend the District 17 Spring Conference at the fabulous Ridges Resort and Marina on the shores of gorgeous Lake Chatuge in the North Georgia mountains, April 4 -6th. We’re planning a FUN conference with lots of events, games, socializing and, if the weather holds, we’ll be doing them on the water! What could be better than a FUN weekend with great friends, on the water, at a marvelous resort, surrounded by fabulous scenery on a spring weekend when the flowers are in bloom?
Regular meeting and change of watch will be held at The Butcher Shop Steakhouse, 107 S. Germantown Pkwy., Cordova, TN. Cocktails at 6:30 and Dinner at 7:00.
